ABOUT
“I am inspired by all the visual arts, from photography, filmmaking, graphic design, architecture, sculpture, and fine art.”
To me, music is also visual. Close you eyes while listening and you can 'see' the music. Of course, it becomes your own interpretation of what it looks like, but I'm sure you see something.
In terms of the fine art world, I absolutely love going to museums and being awed by the images the artists have created. So, a few years ago, I decided to start 'painting' digitally on my iPad for fun. At first it was just a way to relax while waiting for a flight or sitting in a hotel room. But after awhile, I realized that I was coming up with something I thought was interesting and unique; utilizing music notation, in an abstract and colorful way.
After painting digitally for a few years, as well as watching a lot of 'how-to' videos and reading countless art blogs, I felt I was ready to start putting paint on canvas. I knew it would be challenging like anything new is, but I was very excited by doing something totally different.
What I quickly realized was, painting is very similar to writing and producing music. You have to start with the basics, just like learning the notes, chords, and rhythms. But once you have a basic knowledge of that, it becomes more about the inspiration and improvisation (at least for me). I lose myself in the painting as it starts to take shape, just like I do when I'm in the studio.
And similar to my music, I hope the person looking at the paintings feels something. I've always said that it's about creating a mood, a vibe, and I believe that art is no different than music in that regard.
